Cambridge Bancorp Announces the Appointment of Linda Whitlock as Lead Director

Linda Whitlock, Lead Director of Cambridge Bancorp's Board of Directors

Cambridge, Mass. – Cambridge Bancorp and its subsidiary, Cambridge Trust Company, elected Linda Whitlock as Lead Director on the Cambridge Bancorp’s 13 member Board of Directors.  Ms. Whitlock has been a member of the Board since 2002 and currently serves on the Compensation, Corporate Governance and Executive Committees.

“The establishment of the lead director role reflects our continued commitment to effective corporate governance,” noted Joseph V. Roller II, president and CEO of Cambridge Bancorp and Cambridge Trust Company.  “The Bank is fortunate to have elected Linda Whitlock to this position.  Her insights, perspective and senior-level experience will represent our stockholders’ interests and help ensure Cambridge Trust’s long-term success.”

“I am delighted to assume this new responsibility as a member of the Board,” said Whitlock.  “Cambridge Trust has established itself as having the highest of standards for operating and governance performance which sets the stage to capitalize on strategic, long-term growth opportunities.”

Ms. Whitlock is currently the Principal at The Whitlock Group.  She served as Nicholas President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston from 1999 through 2008.  Prior to joining Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, she held various positions within academic institutions including BB&N, Concord Academy, MIT and Tufts University.

Ms. Whitlock has been an active participant on more than 20 corporate and non-profit boards, including the Boston Stock Exchange, and currently serves on the boards of Cambridge Bancorp; The Princeton Review; Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Brandeis University; Boston World Partnerships; and Boston Museum.  She is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of AesRx, a biopharmaceutical company. 

Ms. Whitlock has been awarded honorary doctorates by Suffolk University, Babson College, and Pine Manor College, and has been recognized by the top business and civic institutions in the region.  She was officially inducted into the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce's Academy of Distinguished Bostonians; honored by the Boston Municipal Research Bureau with the Shattuck City Champion Award; and will be honored by the Boston Business Journal with the Advancing Women Award.

An alumna of Mount Holyoke College with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, Ms. Whitlock served in the administrations of Massachusetts Governors Dukakis and King, and has been appointed by Governors Romney and King and Boston Mayor Menino to an array of boards, special commissions, and task forces.  Ms. Whitlock taught at MIT, Tufts, and the University of Michigan, and is currently a Senior Fellow at Boston University’s School of Management.  She has served as Senior Advisor to Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter in his role as CEO of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City.
