Mr. Smith Brings More Than 20 Years Of Experience With A Focus On Serving Captive Insurance Needs

BOSTON, MA, July 2, 2026Eastern Bank is pleased to announce Derek Smith as a Vice President, Relationship Manager-Business Development Officer with Cambridge Trust Private Banking. Mr. Smith brings more than 20 years of experience, with a focus on serving the specialized banking needs of the captive insurance industry across deposit, treasury, lending and investment services.

With direct experience across the benefits/insurance and banking sectors, Mr. Smith offers private banking capabilities focused on insurance companies and services. He has recently served as Vice President-Employee Benefits Consultant at World Insurance and Vice President-Business Development at Risk Strategies Company where his work provided personalized insurance solutions tailored to clients’ financial needs. Earlier in his career, he served as a District Executive/Vice President at Santander Bank, where he was recognized for sales, service and operations improvements, and as a Regional Manager/Vice President at Citizens Bank, where he was recognized for outstanding achievement. Mr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire and an MBA degree from the University of Phoenix. He is a Licensed Insurance Provider (Life and Health) – Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
