James Spencer

Mr. Spencer is Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Cambridge Trust Company. He oversees the Wealth Management investment group, which includes portfolio managers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, as well as analysts, a fixed income specialist, compliance officer and trader in our Boston office. As Chief Investment Officer, he is responsible for Cambridge Trust’s investment management process, investment policy, and research.

With 30 years of experience in investment management, Mr. Spencer joined Cambridge Trust Company in 2003 from Atlantic Trust Company, formerly Pell Rudman Trust Company, where he served as Chief Equity Officer and, in 2001, the company’s Chief Operating Officer.

Previously, Mr. Spencer worked at Wells Fargo Investment Advisors in San Francisco; Kidder Peabody, as Vice President and Research Analyst covering specialty chemicals in New York and Boston; and at Schroder Wertheim and Company as Director and Research Analyst in specialty chemicals in Boston. Institutional Investor Magazine named Mr. Spencer a member of its All American Research Team for eight years.

Mr. Spencer is a member of the CFA Institute, Boston Security Analysts Society, The Boston Economic Club, and The Boston Committee on Foreign Relations. He serves as a member of the Investment Committee at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and participates in the Family Advisory Council at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.

He earned a B.S. in management from Babson College, and is now an Executive-In-Residence at the College. He is a former Trustee of the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
